CineForm at Sundance

Just a quick note that I will at Sundance this year (my first time) for the opening weekend. I will be doing a couple of presentations with Jacob Rodenberg titled "Hollywood Workflows on an Indie Budget: High def & 2k Workflows." This is part of Adobe and HP's presentation series at the New Frontier Theater on Main (333 Main Street, Park City, UT.) The seasons will be at Friday 1/19: 3pm-5pm and Monday 1/22: 4pm-6pm. Jacob will be showing work he has done with CineForm Intermediate for feature film work, on HD and 2K projects. I will be demostrating some next generation workflows that handle RAW image data from large sensor for camera like SI-2K and Dalsa Origin. If you are in Park City, please drop by.

What about us ordinary folks? We also want to know what lies under "Global controls"! Isn't it time to lift the curtain???
Thanks.

I will cut together another demo sequence shortly as it needs to be seen. We had a group of filmmakers glued to their seats at Sundance, so I think you will like it also.

This seems to be the most underwhelming announcement I've seen for a long time. Not even an eyedropper for WB setting? The color matrix looks like the un-friendliest thing ever... Makes you miss your old camera CCU settings. What a shame.

Sorry anon, you have misunderstood what has happened. Your camera's CCU settins are destructive, reducing the resulting image latitude, this is just metadata (non-destructive) and GUI in post (that can be upgraded, yes including a eye dropper.) The color matrix is virually obsolette, so you don't need to use it and the 3D-LUT look system can do exponentially more.

The real problem is the GUI, or the lack of controls. after using Adobe Camera Raw for some years, one develops some expectations. The controls you provide are so obscure, that you have to go to an external program (export frame-process-export look-browse-load, 50+ .looks accumulating in a directory), to do even the basic developing/CC, at an extra 400$ for an Iridas Speedgrade. No option to do almost anything useful inside Cineform raw developer- shadow/highlight recovery, WB/color temperature setting, tint, sharpening, curves, anything! The color matrix is plain unintelligible. Of course camera menus are destructive, but at least they give you some decent, clear controls. Please, prove me wrong, or correct this in a 1.x release.

As I said the color matrix is obsolete, you don't need it, if you think you do you are likely doing something wrong. Still having the full matrix has it value for those who want to use it. We don't use the color matrix in the global controls, the filemeta is for core functions only. That fact that you have still missing what we are really doing is valuable information, we have lot of market education to do.

P.S. You don't need SpeedGrade either, yet it is a good tool for you onset work.
P.P.S. I do value criticism/feedback, that it would be better it is wasn't anonymous.
